Relationship

Fine horses can travel a hundred miles a day,
But they cannot catch mice like terriers or weasels.
All creatures have gifts of their own.

Process

Your relationship with the instructor and other people is in many ways determined by how open you are and by your own limitations, and theirs.
A relationship is a joining of two sets of thoughts, ideas, opinions, memories, emotions and physicalities.
The scope and potential of that relationship is determined and shaped by the blending of these various qualities.
Any relationship develops in a manner concordant with these qualities; its depth and potential unfolding relative to the two personalities involved.

Each relationship is unique.
Every person brings something different, and these differences will shift and change as we experience new things and respond to them.
Relationship is process.
It is not static.
A relationship is innately organic and cannot be planned or forced.

Shared needs

At our most basic, we are animals. We all have a prime motivation - survival.
With survival at our very core, we are driven by instinctive urges that we cannot control.
The need for food, shelter, safety and reproduction connect everyone together.
We are all the same.
Every living creature on this planet has the same basic requirements as you.

Human beings have forgotten that they are living in a biosphere.
What we do not only affects one another but everything else around you.
Picture a goldfish bowl that has never been cleaned:

The glass is covered in slimy green mould... waste and undigested food fills the water.

Is the world heading in that same direction?
Is it already there?

Breathing together

A fish is indivisible from water. Remove the fish from water and it dies. The fish is part of the water.

It exists only in relationship with the water. It cannot exist without the water.
The air that surrounds us is filled with gasses that we move through and breathe.
This gaseous medium is part of us.

It connects us all, filling our bodies, nourishing us, allowing us to breathe and exist.
You are in relationship with everything around you at every moment of every day.
