Dynamic Balancing Boxing
Kung fu is
a modern name. It first came into use in the 1960's.
Before then, Chinese martial arts were called Chinese Boxing, as in the
Boxer Rebellion (1899).
In the book Tao of Being, Ray Grigg defined yin/yang as being a process
of 'dynamic balancing', rather than a fixed, static condition.
Thomas Cleary calls tai chi 'absolute boxing' in his introduction to
The Art of War.
This is akin to calling it yin/yang boxing.
When Sifu Waller opened his own tai chi school in Leeds, he called it
Dynamic Balancing Boxing (which means tai chi).
Our school is now called Newcastle Tai Chi.
Sifu Waller's class within our school retains it's original name in order to distinguish
it from Rachel's qigong & tai chi class. |
