classes qigong tai chi kung fu about us reviews a-z
All students wear:
•
Cotton crew-neck T-shirt
•
Black
cotton
martial arts trousers
• Socks for men
• Female students wear thin
tights
Please note that 'leggings' and T-shirts with pockets are not
appropriate attire for workshops.
Under no circumstances should students wear a
changshan or tai chi T-shirt to our house.
Equipment
Please bring bottled water and any weaponry relevant to your grade.
Please don't park in the back lane
At the risk of stating the obvious, residents want to park outside their
house. So please don't take their parking spot. Antagonising our neighbours
doesn't do us any favours.
Please don't talk loudly in the back lane
Since we're teaching from home, we need to be discreet. If students are
loudly talking when coming to our home or leaving it, this attracts unwanted
attention.
Please show some consideration.
Please don't make yourself too comfortable
In the West people are encouraged to 'make themselves at home' when
visiting somebody else's house. This is not the case in Asia. Always
remember to respect the other person's home...
Good morning Rachel,
I just wanted to again express my thanks to you for inviting me into your
home and to Sifu Waller a truly inspiring workshop. I can say that it was
one of the most educational and enjoyable workshops I have ever attended,
and I've been doing martial arts since I was 15!
Please pass on my thanks to Sifu Waller for allowing me to attend even
though I am ungraded, I really appreciated the opportunity.

Smaller workshops
Smaller workshops are contingent upon interest. If numbers are low,
the pricing will be adjusted e.g. if only 3-5 people attend, a
workshop is possible but would cost £15 not £10.
Kung fu - understanding the training
On a Monday night, the kung fu lesson format is as follows:
1) Warm-up
2) Form
3) Partner work/weapons
Approximately 30 minutes set aside for each.
Now, whilst you might enjoy warming-up and form, people who are seeking martial
skill enjoy the partner work most of all.
Over time, partner work becomes kung fu (Chinese boxing).
As stated, there's only 30 minutes of time available on a Monday night for the
fun part of the evening. This is why we currently offer workshops.
What is the point of workshops?
A beginner's class is not an intensive session. Sifu
Waller must spread his time and attention across the entire hall.
Topics are introduced, explained and practiced.
But we could go deeper...
A workshop is
an additional 90 minutes of martial training.
In real terms, a workshop is Sifu's main lesson of the week. It is the nearest
he comes to being able to teach you kung fu.
A minimum of
15 workshops a year
White - green
belt student training the tai chi
chuan syllabus must commit to
at least 15 workshops.
A minimum of
20 workshops a year
Blue - brown belt 2
students must attend at least 20
workshops/private
lessons each calendar year in order to
grade.
Struggling?
If a student misses lessons or struggles to cope with the intensity of
workshops, Rachel will determine whether or not workshops are appropriate.
Should workshops not prove suitable, your remaining bookings will be
refunded in full.
